Digital Cube
Ben Heller, Dr. Guy Hochman, Prof. Dan Ariely
In the 21st century, a wide variety of activities, events, and stimuli have moved into the digital and virtual sphere, from social gatherings, to art exhibitions, to making fateful decisions. This transition to the digital has changed the way we perform these activities, sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse. A gray field that has also moved into the digital dimension is gambling, whose addictive qualities have been given an extra boost thanks to the attention-grabbing features of the digital platforms. While slot machines and card games have already been seamlessly digitized, one of the most common forms of gambling - dice rolling, still maintains its distinct physical qualities that are critical to the playability of the dice. In this interactive installation, we invite visitors to take part in a gambling game (with real prizes) that includes rolling a virtual dice, and to examine the psychological effect the digital medium has on our tendencies and thoughts while betting. This game was designed and prepared by a research team from Reichman University together with Professor Dan Arieli. The results of the game will be revealed in a lecture by Professor Arieli on Thursday 06.29.23.
