Yotse Min Haklal
Design: Yuval Buchshtab
Story: Nir Yogev
Building: Clal Center
"I had never visited the building as a kid or a teenager," says Yuval Buchstab. "I heard many Jerusalemites talk about its seemingly dubious past, about its complex architecture, but for me, the first visit was a tour of local construction minerals—a journey into the microcosm of the tenants' lives. I was fascinated.
"The entire building is made of simple and generic materials: granulite flooring, a corrugated polycarbonate panel roof, and aluminum profiles, so common in the Israeli urban landscape. Time has left its marks on the building. The wear and tear, erosion, abrasion, and dirt—all told me the story of its life."
In "Yotse Min Haklal," Buchstab sought to examine and sample these local materials, deconstruct them, and reassemble them as souvenirs inspired by the lives lived in the building—objects that could tell a new story about this urban icon.
