New Haven
Design: Eitan Zelwer, Hagar Ofek, Shimri Yanai
Story: Ruth Wexler
Building: Hansen House
"The Leper House," as Hansen House was once known, is a unique gem shrouded in mystery and baseless rumors. Legends about the events that took place in the building kept the public at bay, positioning it as an urban enclave of the unknown.
Project "New Haven" seeks to showcase this remarkable building as if it has not existed for over a century. It does so by reexamining the dying medium of postcards. This series of ceramic postcards presents new interpretations of archival photographs. The postcards contain graphical imagery intentionally disrupted by digital means. These images are printed on delicate clay sheets—a fragmented substrate in and of itself.
The mixture of mediums and the material and visual interventions aim to give physical form to the elusive and the impossible, to revive the lost paradise and establish an alternative imaginary and relatable state that evokes a desire to experience something from a different reality.
Come take part in a fantastic spectacle: experience the space, the people, and the stories previously hidden behind stone walls—and see Hansen House as you have never seen it before.
