Blanks
Rina German Berezovski
Incense burning is an ancient tradition, nearly as old as humanity itself, and it is still practiced in many homes today. It is used to cleanse and purify the space, enhance spiritual focus, and foster a sense of peace. These meanings clash with those of the bullet, designed to harm the body and disrupt its functions. Even before a single shot is fired, the bullet already poses a threat to purity, spirituality, and tranquility. When the incense itself takes the form of a bullet, it takes on a new significance and initiates a different kind of purification ritual. The object represents a linear timeline: one hour of burn time. The blank symbolizes a longing for the rebirth that follows a fire, much like in nature. “Blanks" is an expression of protest and criticism, and where there is protest and criticism, there is also hope and optimism.
