Mass
Tomer Bismut
What looks like a weighty mass that formed naturally deep underground is actually an object that the designer crafted with his own two hands in his studio, using a paper fiber composite. Through the interaction between the object and the viewer, the work seeks to momentarily disrupt our perception of space and assist us in understanding that our senses do not necessarily reflect reality, even though we experience them as truth.
The displayed material appears dense, heavy, and solid but is actually breathable, airy, and lightweight.
By suspending the mass above the doorway unsupported, Bismut aims to engage the viewers' senses as they walk under an imaginary and simulated piece of nature, realistic yet fabricated.
