His Holiness in Jerusalem
Daniel Paul (Czech Republic)
The sculpture is a portrait of self-deception and hypocrisy deepened by the consumerist way of life. Symbols of consumerism are deified, and spiritual symbols are devalued. It is an external pose to deceive oneself and others. Thus the artwork asks questions such as: What does spirituality mean? What is real and what is an illusion? How does the inner truth of our lives shape the outer reality?
The sculpture exhibited is a scaled and adapted version of Paul’s His Holiness sculpture from the Turbofolk collection.
